Employee Spotlight – Meet Melodie Avery

Employee Appreciation: Melodie Avery, Office Manager

At Calhoun Foundry, long tenures often tell the best stories. When someone has dedicated decades to the work, the team, and the daily rhythm of the foundry, it says something about the culture we’ve built. We sat down with one of our most experienced team members to reflect on what’s made the time here meaningful. Her answers speak to the pride, persistence, and people that define Calhoun.

“It’s not just a job to me.”

How did you get started at Calhoun, and what initially drew you to the company?

Well, the company I had been working for was closing its doors, and a dear friend of mine mentioned there was a part-time opening at Calhoun. I figured I’d give it a try—and would you believe it’s been nearly 34 years? Time sure flies when you’re in the right place.

What’s been the most rewarding part of dedicating so many years to Calhoun?

The work family here has meant so much to me over the years. And I truly love the work I do—it keeps me on my toes! There’s always something new to learn. I even spent time out in production, which was such a neat experience. It gave me a whole new appreciation for what happens on the floor.

For new employees entering Calhoun, what advice would you give?

My best advice? Come in each day with the right mindset and take pride in your work. If you’re responsible and stay focused, you’ll find this to be a very fulfilling place to be. Just doing your job well brings a kind of satisfaction that’s hard to beat.

Outside of work, what sort of activities/hobbies are you involved with?

If you know me, you know how important family is to me. We’re a big sports family. My husband and I love getting to watch all our grandchildren play their respective sports.

What specific innovations or improvements did you help shape Calhoun into what it is today?

One thing I’m quite proud of is helping implement our Odyssey software system. It’s something we now use for just about everything, and being part of getting that up and running, it felt good to know I played a part in something so important to how we operate today.

Stories like this remind us that Calhoun’s strength comes from the people who show up every day with dedication and purpose. We’re grateful for the commitment and the character that help shape who we are.
