Calhoun Foundry’s Perfect 5 Step Process

At Calhoun Foundry, we specialize in producing highly cored, intricate gray and ductile iron castings for automotive and OEM applications. Our process ensures each casting meets the highest standards of quality and precision.

  1. Melting and Pouring
Our melting process employs large furnaces operating at temperatures between 2,600 to 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Computerized systems monitor temperature constantly during melting to maintain optimal conditions.

  2. Core Making
We design, build, and maintain our own core box machines, providing a variety of core-making processes suited to the specific type of casting required.

  3. Molding
With three automated molding centers, three turntable systems, a Didion continuous processing media drum, and two blast centers, our production system ensures efficiency, precision, and high-quality results.

  4. Cleaning and Finishing
Metal quality is checked by our Metallurgist, using spectrometer, microscope, tensile and hardness testing.

  5. Inspection
Every casting undergoes a visual inspection. Depending on the type of casting and customer requirements, we also employ vision inspection technology for defect identification.

Calhoun Foundry has been pouring high-quality castings since 1943.
